Reflections of A Moarable Feast by Jami Milne
It’s been over a month since Thanksgiving, but I am no less thankful.
This fall I was honored to be asked by Trish Myers to help create A Moarable Feast, an inaugural dinner set at one long farm table in the gathering space of Moar Tacos. The theme was based on Ernest Hemingway’s A Moveable Feast and was to be a celebration of love and life and above all, thankfulness.
To get personal, briefly, I didn’t know Trish well. I knew her from Moar fame, and was that friend of a friend I wanted to support. I cared about her because I knew she cared — about her friends, her family, her ability to create and her desire to create meaningful moments. And damn, those tacos.
Trish created an evening where family, friends and strangers sat next to one another with ease. She created a palette of cuisine in a food court that is better than any restaurant I’ve attended. The magic came not just in that dinner, but in so many ways that night because of A Moarable Feast:
A place for artists to create with the collaboration of the Girl Gang and their first two zines for each attendee (Meanz and Janelle, thank you).
A small piece of heaven as my seven year old was allowed to help Torri Myers peel pomegranates and take Polaroids of the incomparable Laura Rodriguez.
And an evening to celebrate not only what we’ve been given, but just as important, what we’re able to give, as profits from ticket sales were donated toward Hawthorn Hill.
Thank you to the two dozen perfect strangers that sat around that table. Thank you to the many artists and supporters that came together to create. As we look toward 2017, and hopefully additional gatherings, may we all be so lucky to take solace in the comfort of good food, good family and good friends.
“We ate well and cheaply and drank well and cheaply and slept well and warm together and loved each other.”― Ernest Hemingway, A Moveable Feast
Additional thank yous to the entire Moar Tacos staff, artists who created Thankful Drawings (Emily Betts Susanin, Jamie Milne, Janelle Ketcher, Abby Rowling, Cat Rocketship, Jessica Siefert, Aubrey Pasker, Hannah Hope Hawbaker, and Mo), Casey for beautifully capturing everything and all those who participated in the dinner!
